世界初のステルス戦闘機です。平面を巧みに組み合わせた独特のデザインです。レーダー波の反射を最小限にするのに、このような形になりました。今までの航空機の設計概念を大きく変え、コンピュターがあればこその設計です。こんな形の航空機が飛ぶなんて昔の設計者が見たら腰を抜かすでしょう。戦闘機とはいえ、その能力は攻撃機のそれで、爆弾や対地ミサイルを搭載して、陰の如く敵に気づかれることなく目標を攻撃します。

The Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk is the world's first operational aircraft completely designed around stealth technology. Flown only by the United States Air Force, it is a direct descendant of the Have Blue stealth prototype program. The F-117A was widely publicized during the Gulf War. It is scheduled to be replaced by the F-22 Raptor between 2008 and 2020.
