Junkers Ju88 1936

The Junkers Ju88 was originally designed as a fast day time bomber and was an extremely versatile bomber. The first prototype flew on 21 December 1936 but did not see service until just as the war broke out in 1939.
The aircraft performed admirably during the Battle of Britain and suffered a lower attrition rate than the Do17 and the HE111 despite its heavier weight. Late in the battle a reconnaissance version JU88D-0 was produced which flew from Norway

ドイツ空軍の主力爆撃機として活躍した機体です。約15,000機も生産されました。派生型として夜間戦闘機型、地上攻撃機型、偵察機型も生産されました。デザイン上の特徴は機首部分に乗員や対空砲火を集中し、スッキリとした胴体を作り上げたのが空力的にメリットをもたらしました。一見空冷エンジンのように見えますが環状ラジエターを全面に配した液冷エンジンを搭載しています。しかしＢＭＷ８０１空冷エンジンを搭載した夜間戦闘機型もありました。なお主翼前縁に垂れ下がっているのはエアブレーキです。
